Inner Child

Inner Child Work Is A Misunderstood Self-Therapy Technique

Your inner child is not you, nor is it merely a part of you. However, when this child dominates your life, it exerts control over you, regardless of how successful, intelligent, or gifted your adult self may be. If your inner child is confused, upset, or fearful, you will experience those same emotions until you discover what the child is focusing on and address it. The tools to connect with your inner child—and help him or her heal—are found in your body sensations, emotions, and thoughts. When your inner child influences your life, you both experience the same feelings. Feelings are the bridge to your inner child, and once you learn how to navigate them, you can travel through time and space to help your wounded child heal, allowing the child to live freely without affecting your present life.

When your inner child, with all its traumas and dramas, controls your life, it’s easy to understand why you may feel inadequate or why others may tell you to “grow up” or stop acting childishly. Childish behavior is a clear sign that your inner child is in control, while you, as consciousness, are not. In self-therapy, your inner child becomes your most powerful ally in fulfilling your life’s purposes and, more importantly, enjoying life free from stress, anxiety, or trauma. Working with your inner child will change your life in ways you may not yet fully understand.

There are some key facts about the inner child that are important to grasp. First, your inner child is not just a memory of who you once were; she or he is much more. Your inner child is a living, breathing being, existing in this very moment, experiencing the same emotions you are while also remembering the traumas and dramas you may have forgotten. Since all events and time occur simultaneously, at any given moment we are merely focusing on a particular part of our multidimensional selves—what we perceive as our current experience. What we consider to be the past or future is also happening in the present moment, but because it isn’t our focus, we experience it as past or future.

Modern humans have evolved to experience time as a linear process, isolating and concentrating on one focus in this three-dimensional world. However, as multidimensional beings, we can access much more. Your inner child can guide you to the root of forgotten problems while showing you how to solve their issues—and thus, your own. Once your inner child is content and healed, she or he will no longer need to affect your life, allowing you to live freely, and she or he too will be free to live her or his own life.
